This tool produces a design preview, not a compliance certificate. Check the finished artwork against the rules that apply in your market — OSHA Hazard Communication (29 CFR 1910.1200) in the United States, EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008) in Europe, or the current UN GHS Revision elsewhere — and have a qualified chemical safety professional sign it off before production.
The 9 GHS pictograms

Each pictogram is a black symbol on white inside a red diamond frame. The frame must be wide enough to be clearly visible — never printed in black or left as an outline hint.
Signal word rules
- “Danger” — more severe hazard categories
- “Warning” — less severe hazard categories
- If both would apply, print only “Danger”
- One label carries exactly one signal word
- Some categories carry no signal word at all
H and P statements
Hazard statements (H codes) describe the nature and severity of the hazard. Precautionary statements (P codes) cover prevention, response, storage and disposal. Both are standard, fixed wording — take them from Section 2 of your Safety Data Sheet or from the annexes to the UN GHS “Purple Book”, and do not paraphrase them.

Shipping containers also need transport marks under the UN Model Regulations (ADR / IMDG / IATA), which are separate from the GHS workplace and supply label.
Which rule set applies to you
GHS is a UN framework, not a law. Each jurisdiction adopts a revision of it: OSHA HazCom in the US aligned to GHS Rev. 7 in its 2024 update, EU CLP runs on its own adaptations to technical progress, and most other markets track a recent UN GHS revision. Codes and pictograms are shared, but label size, language and the exact allowed wording are set locally.
Marine shipments of drums and IBCs commonly call for BS 5609 Section 2 and 3 certified label stock, which survives 90 days of seawater immersion.
